Thursday's class

The discussion on high-stakes and low stakes grades was very helpful to me and how to adapt them to my first grade class. I only wish all grades could be low-stake in grades k-2.

I agree with your low stakes writing for K-2. Raymond would come home and tell me that he hated writing and it would take him forever to complete the lesson. He had to make sure all the sentences began with a capital letter and ended with a period. Then, on the week-end he would have published this "book" with chapters on Star Wars. Of course each chapter was only a page with a lot of grammatical errors. But, it was a longer work or piece of writing and he got the basic idea of how books were divided in chapters. And---He loved it and wanted it posted on the refrigerator.
