Thursday, Low Stakes Writing

I found this discussion to be very helpful. I like the microthemes and find a sentence. (I like all of them but think those two would be a starting point for entering third graders.) You could use these ideas across subject areas. I think I can include more Low Stakes Writing in my classroom now. This are quick activities to assess, also.

I always hated to teach writing because I thought I didn't know how. Seeing the stuff this week tells me that I do, I just was confused on how to actually go about it.

I agree Julia. Some of these strategies should make it easier to feel good about the amount of useful activities we are giving our kids to help them become better writers.

I too think that the microthemes sound like a good idea.My kids couldn't really write too many comments but they could a little. It would be a fun way to involve all the students at any level

I think that this is a good entry activity for third grade also. I would like to try it in library class.
